BACKGROUND
“If working apart, we are a force powerful enough to destabilize our planet. Surely working together, we are powerful enough to save it.”
- Sir David Attenborough (COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland, 2021)
At COP21 in France, an agreement was made to reduce global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Following the Paris Agreement at COP21 in France (2015), Thailand has pledged to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 20% compared to the usual trajectory by 2030 with further reductionsof 40% with the help of financial and technological support.
Research concluded that these agreements by world leaders remains out of reach, the pledges presented at COP26 are merely enough to limit global temperature increases by 2.1 degrees Celsius at best. It was also stated that lack of ambitious targets and weak climate policies are undermining the effort to limit global warming and that Thailand did not update their goals enough to make a big difference.
